As we have all become conscious of improving our appearance, we have found myriad ways to do it. We try to look good by wearing make up, dyeing our hair, getting breast implants, spending on clothing and several other ways just to modify our looks. Even if it seems not necessary, these are definitely interesting creations.
Many times we must have laughed at the characters in old movies. The glasses that they wore, for example, were hardly anything stylish. That is, from our view point. Today, people abhor wearing such spectacles. Perhaps, in those days people used those glasses because they needed them. We may assume, looking good was secondary to being practical and meaningful.
We see the modern day boys and girls sporting a variety of trendy glasses. These young people have no vision problems; for them it is fashion. They believe it gives them a fashion image. One question arises on my mind. Did or did not the people of those decades see glasses as something fashionable? Even if they did not link it to the fashion of the day, I wonder why they did not think of an alternative to the thick big lenses that they wore. Why did they not think of contact lenses. That would have made a lot of difference.
Having said all this, it is interesting to just imagine what the young ones coming after another 20-30 years will say about our trends. We know for sure that what we have today is the fashion for all times to come or this is the best of all times. This said, it is possible that what we see of sixties must have been the fashion of those times. If you think talking about this issue is waste of time, I do not dispute. The idea is just to muse over the issue and keep our minds active. Above all, it is fun too.
